Planning for a Fellowship

Carefully planned fellowship proposals are encouraged.

We encourage applicants to carefully plan their fellowship proposals. Surveys of recent fellows found that they believed careful planning was very important to the success of their fellowships. Many applicants not granted fellowships said that goal setting and other work in preparing their applications were helpful to their personal and professional development.

The contents of a good fellowship application will vary depending on the applicant’s goals. The information on this page offers overall suggestions for applying for a Leadership fellowship, and then more specific suggestions depending on whether an applicant intends to use a fellowship for an academic degree-granting program or self-designed learning experience.
